Getting Holiday Beauty Ready: #TravelTips with Cosmetify*

It's official, summer is here. But I wouldn't blame you for finding this a little difficult to believe. Although the best season of the year supposedly begins today on Friday 21st June, we certainly haven't been treated to much summery weather in recent weeks. Here in Leicester, the rain has been non-stop, with trees losing their branches because of high winds! On more than one occasion in recent weeks, I've trudged back from the university campus utterly bedraggled and soaked to the skin due to the strength of the rainstorms. Urgh. Unsurprisingly, the rather tepid temperatures have me dreaming of a hot summer holiday. Cocktails on the beach in 30 degree heat with nothing to do but read a book and soak up the sunshine? Yes PLEASE.

However, jetting off on holiday can throw our skincare routines into disarray. With Ryanair reducing the size of their cabin bags yet again, we can be forced to leave key elements of our usual beauty regime at home. This can be dangerous - you don't need me to tell you how important it is to look after your skin in the sunshine. Every holidaymaker, young and old, needs to ensure that their skin is slathered in SPF to avoid sunburn. Keeping up with a regular but gentle cleansing and moisturising routine is also key to make sure that your skin recovers from a day in the sun. To refresh your memory of how to keep your face in tip-top shape in the summer heat, I've teamed up with the lovely people at Cosmetify on their #TravelTips campaign to share the beauty travel minis I can’t travel without, my beauty tips for travel abroad and how I make sure that my skincare routine isn’t scarified when on my hols. Let's get started!

Who are Cosmetify?

Cosmetify is your one stop shop for all things beauty and skincare. Their site stocks over 16,000 products from a whole host of brands, including many we already know and love. Brands available on the site include Charlotte Tilbury, The Ordinary, Urban Decay and so many more. As well as providing the ideal place to purchase skincare products, haircare, makeup, and fragrances, you'll find all of your electrical needs catered for on Cosmetify too - everything from electric toothbrushes to hairdryers are in stock. What's amazing about Cosmetify is that when you click on a product that you're interested in, you'll see a drop down menu on the page which enables you to compare the price listed on Cosmetify with the cost of the same product at other major retailers. Using this handy tool, you can be sure you're getting the best deal. It's also really easy to shop cruelty free on Cosmetify, a cause close to my heart. Using the extensive list of filters on the site, you can choose to see only cruelty free products. You can also filter out products that contain specific ingredients such as alcohol, oil, or ammonia, which is fantastic if you have sensitive skin or an allergy to take into consideration. There's no excuse for neglecting your holiday skincare when shopping is such a doddle on the Cosmetify site!

My Cosmetify shopping list

Anyone who has read my blog for a while will know that I'm a complete Neal's Yard Remedies skincare obsessive. You can imagine my delight when I saw that Cosmetify stock a huge range of their products, often at a cheaper price than you'll find at other retailers as well. I'll definitely be adding a NYR skincare kit to my Cosmetify shopping list this summer. I've got my eye on the Rehydrating Rose Skincare Kit, which contains a facial wash, toner, oil, and moisturiser. The ingredients (which are very easy to view on the Cosmetify site) include aloe vera, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid, so I can be sure that they'll be a really nourishing treat for my skin after a day in the sun. The skincare kit is the perfect size for a holiday, especially if you're travelling hand-luggage only. This is because all of the containers are minis, coming in at under 100ml. The kit also comes in its own organic cotton bag, meaning that you can throw it in your luggage as soon as it arrives with minimal fuss. Holiday skincare? Sorted! In addition to this, if you want to get a bit glam while you're away, Cosmetify has plenty of makeup minis to help you out. You can even get a set of cruelty free mini mascaras for less than a fiver - amazing!

My top beauty tips for travel abroad

To round off this post, I thought I'd share my top five #TravelTips for sensational holiday skin. I'm eager to hear yours too, so make sure you drop me a comment down below with your product recommendations once you've scoured my list.

  • If your favourite products don't come in miniature form, shop for them in a full size version on Cosmetify and make them travel friendly at home! You can purchase 100ml bottles very cheaply on the high street and simply decant your products before travel. You can even use contact lens cases to hold smaller amounts of products you don't use as regularly.
  • Downsize on your suitcase and save the planet by avoiding makeup wipes. It can be tempting to take wipes on holiday as a cleansing alternative but by packing a reusable cleansing cloth instead, you'll save on space in your bag whilst making a great choice for the environment.
  • Combine your base makeup with your SPF. To protect your face from the sun's harmful rays and give yourself a little bit of makeup coverage at the same time, opt for a BB or CC cream with added SPF. Getting a two-in-one means packing fewer products - win!
  • Slather that moisturiser on the night before you fly. That dry air on the plane doesn't do anything good to your skin, so prepping before your flight will ensure that your face isn't looking dull when you arrive for your vacation.
  • Pack smart with your pals. If you and your travel buddy use the same moisturiser and the same sunscreen, why pack multiple bottles? Pool your resources to keep your bags as light as possible.
