Making the Most of Christmas Shopping with Moonpig

THIS POST FEATURES GIFTED ITEMS FROM MOONPIG
"Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?" This question is guaranteed to strike fear into the hearts of anyone waiting until December payday to hit the high street. To things that little bit easier this year, the lovely people at Moonpig challenged me to write a post focused on my shopping experience this festive season. And to make my top tips for shopping success even easier to remember, all of my yuletide advice is taken from the lyrics of famous Christmas songs! I might have adapted them just a little...  Keep reading to make your Christmas shop worth singing about!

"Oh I wish it could be Christmas everyday, when you shop online you can't go astray!"

On a recent trip to London, I found myself on Oxford Street. And oh boy, do I wish I hadn't! Although it was only early December when I visited the capital, the city's main shopping zone was chock-a-block with busy shoppers with armfuls of bags, barging their way down the pavements. After that experience, it won't surprise anyone that I've opted to do most of my shopping online using sites like Moonpig this festive season. Online shopping not only lets you secure your gifts from the comfort of your sofa but it also makes price comparison easy, helping you to minimise Christmas debt

"You better not pout, I'm telling you why, letterbox gifts are comin' to town!"

Sadly, we don't always get to see all of the people we cherish at Christmas but you can still show them how much you care. How? By sending some goodies through the post, of course! I have many lovely pen friends who I don't get to see often enough and I've already started mailing their cards and prezzies.

But if you've left your shopping to the last minute and find yourself tight for time, you can even get a present shipped directly to them - one that'll slip straight through their letterbox! Whether the recipient is a Harry Potter fanatic or simply loves cheese, Moonpig will offer a letterbox gift to suit them. And if that wasn't enough, you can even send wine and gin in letterbox friendly form as well. What could be better?!

"I'm dreaming of a personalised Christmas!"

Hands up if you've got someone in your life who is impossible to buy for! I know I've got a few of those tricky people on my nice list this Christmas. You can spend hours wracking your brains trying to find an obscure gift, but instead you can save yourself the hassle and opt for a simple (yet still thoughtful!) personalised prezzie. Moonpig are the king of such gifts - they can personalise everything from mugs, aprons, to bottles of bubbly! They sent me a fab Santa sack with my name on, giving me somewhere to stash my presents - another fantastic gift idea! By getting your loved on a personalised gift, you'll be giving them something as unique as they are.

"All I want for Christmas is time with you!"

When I'm buying for the people I love, I always tend to privilege experiences over things. By gifting a voucher for afternoon tea or a day out, you're not just giving the recipient a thoughtful present but also a wealth of memories to reflect on long after the experience is over. Plus having fewer things cluttering up the house after the big day can only be positive!

But although there are many good reasons to gift an experience this Christmas, there's no denying that material gifts are much more fun to unwrap! To make sure that the experience vouchers I've purchased this year have the fun factor, I've wrapped them super creatively! I wrapped my Mum's theatre tickets inside a box, inside a box, inside a box to ensure she'll never guess what's inside!

"It's the most eco-friendly time of the year!"

If only those lyrics held true! One of last week's biggest news stories centred around Christmas jumpers being terrible for the environment. And that's only the tip of the iceberg - with reams of wrapping paper being torn off on Christmas morning and over-buying of food leading to extra wastage, Christmas doesn't exactly have the best reputation for being kind to the planet.

However, you can do your bit whilst Christmas shopping by using recyclable brown paper to wrap your gifts. Unlike foil or glittery gift wrap, this is easily recyclable. I like to use inks and letter stamps to give the paper an additional festive touch. I've even re-used some ribbons that I received on presents last year in order to be both environmentally-friendly AND jolly!

"Wrappin' around the Christmas tree, have a happy Holiday!"

Once you've sorted all of your gifts and are ready to start wrapping, why not make a night of it? Stick a Christmas movie on, grab a mince pie or three, and get stuck in! Planning a night in to wrap your gifts will not only give you a chance to relax, embrace the festive spirit and reduce Christmas stress but it's also a great excuse to get together with some loved ones for the occasion. So long as you're not wrapping presents to give to one another (that might ruin the surprise!), wrapping prezzies with friends or family can be a lovely bonding exercise. I'm looking forward to doing this with my sister once I'm back at my family home for Christmas!
